The V FactorPrimary and secondary stresses are differentiated in assessments of component integrity. It is especially important to correctly determine the relative contributions of these two stress types when making assessment of flaw tolerance in welded joints. Transforming Stress Limited staff proposed the V factor for this purpose. V was an adaption of existing methods, and it now used in the following codes and standards.
